When I took my heart out
When I took my heart out, of Your grasp O Lord,
I took it from Your tender hands,
And gave it to another, forgetting my first Love,
Thinking without You I could stand.
But it was trampled upon, wounded and used
Fell broken with no strength to rise
But as it laid in the depths, laid falling apart
From the depths it began to cry
So You whispered my name, and stretched out Your arm
And Your name my heart recalled
You lifted me up, wiped my tears with Your touch
And carried me from my fall
Shattered in pieces, broken and hurt
You took the pieces of my heart again
As the Potter with His clay, and a Healer’s great skill
You took my heart and began to mend
With the stitches you bound, with a gentle hand’s touch
You made my heart whole once more
And let Your love pump through, You gave it new strength
Now its engraved to be only Yours.
